Faro Airport Solar Plant
SunMind’s first solar power plant, located in Faro (Portugal), is the result of a partnership that began in 2019 between ANA, the concessionaire for all civil airports in Portugal and a subsidiary of VINCI Airports (VINCI Concessions), the landowner and energy consumer, and SunMind, the project developer and financier.
Faro airport was ideally suited for the development of a photovoltaic power plant with available land, high electricity consumption and high insolation (yield greater than 1,800 kWh/kWp).
The 3 MWp power plant supplies the airport with around 5 GWh of electricity per year since its commissioning in 2022. This represents nearly 30% of its annual electricity consumption and will reduce annual CO2 emissions by more than 1,500 tons.
The contract between SunMind and ANA is a 15-year Corporate PPA. After these 15 years, the airport will continue to operate the plant on its own behalf.
